Leopard, Firewall Access, WiFi, iPhone Access

Postby badkarma » November 27th, 2007, 2:34 am

Nick,
I figured I would start a new topic since this is an issue with Mac Leopard users...
Unable to access Eyetv recordings from another Mac using Leopard and either WiFi or ethernet connections. Cannot enable port 2170 in firewall because Leopard doesn't give access to specific ports as Tiger did.
Firewall choices in Leopard are
1) Allow all incoming connections
2) Allow only essential services
3) Set access for specific services and applications
When set to 1, you disable the firewall. Eyetv sharing works with other ethernet and WiFi connected Macs and also works with iPhone.
When set to 2, doesn't allow sharing.
When set to 3, doesn't allow sharing.
Essentially in a nutshell, we need to somehow be able to activate the firewall in leopard and allow shared recordings amongst network connected Macs, or be able to add an application (eyetv or eyeconnect) to firewall choice #3.

Thanks

Try enabling the EyeConnect application (/Library/Application Support/EyeConnect/EyeConnect.app) in Security>Firewall.

Thanks for the quick reply Adam,
I added eyeconnect to the firewall access and still no joy. The only way to be able to access my eyetv recordings is with the firewall set to "allow all incoming connections".
Here is the log entry from the console:
Nov 27 12:36:25 Macintosh -2 firewall [51] deny eyeconnect connecting from 192.168.xxx.xxx proto=6

My setup:
Eyetv 500 software version 2.5.1
Powermac G5 Dual 2.0 connected via ethernet to router to cable modem (Cox). Setup connects to Airport wireless.
Wireless Macs:
iMac core 2 duo
Macbook pro
All Macs running OSX 10.5.1

All wireless computers work without a hitch with firewall enabled, except for Eyetv sharing with firewall enabled. Turn firewall off and sharing works.
