Discuss the Elgato Video Capture device and its use.

Lost Audio

Postby betalogue » December 31st, 2009, 3:39 pm

First started using my Video Capture yesterday. Worked fine with composite video connected to my receiver's video out and audio connected to my receiver's audio out. Was able to digitize a 2-hour VHS with no problem.

Then I tried again with another tape, and now I can no longer get any audio through the VC. The video goes through just fine, and I can hear the audio on my receiver's speakers, so it's playing fine. But no audio is getting in through the VC. I tried connecting the VCR's audio out directly, and that's not working either. I also tried unplugging and replugging the VC, quitting and relaunching the VC software, etc.

Any advice?

Turns out it's a major interface flaw: The "Mute" button continues to apply even after you've finished a recording, and it hides the audio signal for the next project, even in the audio page where the signal level should appear. You can only turn the muting back off by proceeding all the way to the recording page.

It makes no sense that the Mute function should hide the audio signal (the audio signal is still being received even if it's muted on the Mac) and there should be an option to turn muting off on the audio signal page!

Hi Pierre. I was thinking about posting a link to your article but of course you would do it since you started this topic. :)

I received my EVC the other day and fired it up and recorded and imported one video from a VHS. Then after that I decided to update the software. MISTAKE!

After getting this error every time that says there is no audio or something. It's the same error you are getting with the muted sound.

I reinstalled the original CD that came with it just so I could use the software again.

When will this bug be fixed? I like the features of the new software but just can't use it.

You should be able to use the software just fine. When you get to the audio screen, just jump to the next screen, uncheck Mute, and then go back to the audio screen to check your levels and proceed.
