EyeTV 3.0.1 Released

Postby Mike Evangelist » February 21st, 2008, 10:34 pm

We've just released version 3.0.1. You can get it via "Check for updates" in the application.

Changes since version 3.0.1

Hardware Support
TerraTec Cinergy Hybrid T XS FM
Support has been added for TerraTec Cinergy Hybrid T XS FM, a new DVB-T/Analog PAL and FM Radio USB stick available in Europe.

Smart Guides
Smart Guides now have a Start Day and Stop Day rule which allows an easy way to select a specific day of the week.

XMLTV Electronic Programming Guide
EyeTV 3.0.1 adds support for xml files that contain electronic programming guide data downloaded via the open-source xmltv tool. Simply drag the downloaded .xml file onto EyeTV. To switch a particular channel's program guide provider to xmltv, select the channel in EyeTV's channel list, then click the EPG popup menu and choose xmltv. Elgato is interested in hearing user comments about this feature, especially from developers who'd like to work on integrating their xmltv-based applications with EyeTV. Please send your feedback to xmltvintegration@elgato.com.

Hey Mike,

WOWIE! The 3.0.1 update is a radical improvement, so far, channels are coming in clearer. Maybe some of my clear QAM woes will be toast, er history. Will let you know how it goes.

Thank you for this, I'm hoping it resolves my export to ipod hanging. And the new XMLTV Electronic Programming Guide from a file is going to be most welcome to many I am sure, and certainly an interesting move.

Just a shame about that new editing window being worse than the original version 2 still :)

Lots of good stuff guys. I hope you can work on the 'delete' improvement/Menu button improvement/holding button down feature in program guide in 3.0.2 (viewtopic.php?f=86&t=993)

Hello,

Remove the big bar in publishing or create preferences for
Lighten it, diminish or remove it and put underneath as before
It takes too much space on the screen

Is there any direct downloadable file for 3.0.1 available, like on previous versions?
On my iMac I have only a modem with 56 kbit/s. So I prefer downloads via a pc.

Is the annoying issue with the forced Overscan mode when exporting as Quicktime movie resolved in this release?

I'm still stuck at eyeTV 2.4.0 which seems to be the only release which doesn't enable Ovescan mode when exporting and so it's the only version which produces good quality images. I really wonder if I'm the only one exporting recodings as Quicktime movies, because the quality loss is really visible (but maybe nobody has still the old 2.4.0 release so nobody can compare the image quality between the 2.4.0 release and all later releases).

I've posted a message (titled "Forced overscan mode when exporting?") in this forum with some example images, where you can see the quality differences.

I'd buy the update to eyeTV 3.0 immediately if I know that the Overscan issue is resolved. But until then each update is just useless.

Tag Uwe,

No, the 'check for updates' function is the only way to get 3.0.1.

I assume you're referring to the overlay graphics when editing?
If so, i too thought they were somewhat obtrusive so i decided to take matters into my
own hands and increase the translucent effect of the "OverlayBG" images used for this.
An improvement... for me anyway. 8-)

To only have the update available via the application is a potential waste of bandwidth. I have EyeTV on a number of my systems and having to download a 60MB+ update on each one is just unnecessary. We should be able to access the update file via a downloadable disk image so we can save everyone time and bandwidth.

Once you've updated one copy of EyeTV, just copy the updated application to your other machines.

Each time I 'check for updates,' I can successfully download the entire package, but when I choose to install the package ("Install and Relaunch"), I get an error message ("EyeTV does not have permission to write to the application's directory! Are you running off a disk image? If not, ask your system administrator for help.").
We have EyeTV running on this Mac, but there are two of us and each of us have user accounts on the system. We are full administrators on each of our accounts, but the EyeTV update never prompts me for the admin password when it attempts to install. I suspect this is the problem why it does not have sufficient perms to install. I can't figure out another way of installing the program - I am logged on as myself, and I was the first account created on this machine, and was the first administrator created by default.
All of our applications are installed in the Applications folder, not in a Shared folder. Each of us has an EyeTV configuration that's unique to our accounts, but the application is shared by both.
I have 600GB disk space on this machine.
Suggestions?

I would love it if they gave us a choice of something this light for the overlays...

Just updated and went to "look" for the Smart Guide improvement for Start Day/Stop Day. Unless I missed something--I can't find it. Had some issues with the Admin/Standard password prompt during updating, but eyeTV indicates that I'm running 3.0.1.

Same for me…
Directly after the update EyeTV successfully exported four 30min. recordings but since then it crashes on nearly every export.
And I also have crashes when it attempts to start a scheduled recording…this is the even bigger problem for me now.
Please, please fix this.

I've found another possible bug with this release see my thread here about: ATSC problems when using an STB via S-Video, for further information.

Having the same issue-not able to update software-("EyeTV does not have permission to write to the application's directory! Are you running off a disk image? If not, ask your system administrator for help."). have tried repairing permissions, only one user account on this machine, installed in the application folder, have checked sharing and permissions under the check information tab and read and write is allowed. please help how can I update the software EyeTV 3.0 (3400).
Thanks Dr. A

I was finally able to resolve this problem - but I'm not really sure how. I found in one of the downloads folder the new version of EyeTV. I ran it from the downloads folder to see if it would work (it did) and I went ahead and manually replaced the old version in the Applications folder with the new version.
When we logged in on the other account, EyeTV wouldn't work anymore (the new version was already in the Apps folder so it was the one that launched), but we ran the configuration program once and quit it mid-way through, and suddenly EyeTV started working again.

I have noticed what appears to be an improvement in this release. I am not sure however if it is related to the 10.5.2 and recent quicktime and video updates, or the 3.0.1 ETV update. In any case, running with everything up to date, I am seeing an improvement in HD performance. I was getting some motion blurring prior to the updates on my Mac mini 1.83Ghz Core Duo. My HD channels now look great without any dropped frames or blurring.
Someone is doing something right. Now if I can just get the QAM and program guide issues ironed out, I'll be a happy camper.
